Sunscreen has become the need of the hour in various parts of the world where tropical ultraviolet rays touch to the earth. Sharp UV rays damage the DNA of your skin and cause skin cancer gradually. That’s why; it’s important to protect your skin with an effective sunscreen. Wear sunscreen to your hands, neck, face and other open parts while going to sun exposure.
Selecting an appropriate sunscreen is not an uphill task. You need to consider a few important factors in this context. I have tried to use easy language to make you understand the medical terminology.
Some sunscreens protect your skin from UVA rays and some come with protection from UVB rays. Check your requirements. If you are living in a region where there is a hot summer, select a sunscreen that can protect you from UVB rays. These are severe in summer and spring from 10 AM to 4 PM. Select a sunscreen that comes with a “Broad Spectrum” tag. The tag shows that it can protect your skin from both kinds of ultraviolet rays.
Sun Protection Factor
SPF is a measure to protect from the sun’s UVB rays. It measures from 2 to 50+ according to different regions. A higher number means a stronger protection formula. For example, if you are living in a region where your skin starts to redden after 20 minutes in the sun exposure, SPF 15 will protect your skin for five hours.
Sunscreen is available in different forms: gel, liquid, and cream. Determine what type of sunscreen you want to use and then go ahead towards the list. If your skin is oily, select a sunscreen cream because it leaves no oily surface to your skin. The gel is usually for dry skin.
Sunscreen can be effective for a particular time only. Check the duration and make sure that you select a sunscreen that lasts for 12 hours. Some sunscreen lasts for an even longer time.
